Desmond is AMAZING | Drag kid, LGTBQ activist & a happy 10-year-old boy

¿Quién le iba a decir a Desmond Napoles que el New Yorck City Pride de 2015 le cambiaría tanto la vida? Por aquel entonces, Desmond, de Brooklyn, tenía 8años, y acaparó la atención de todas las cámaras con su tutú arco iris y su gorro de lentejuelas doradas, haciéndose viral. Pero lo que más llamó la atención no era su atuendo, sino su baile despreocupado y la felicidad que transmitía caminando por la Quinta Avenida. 

How could tell that the 2015 New York City Pride would change Desmond Napoles' life? Back then, Desmond, from Brooklyn, was just a 8-year-old child who took the attention of every camera with his rainbow tutu and his gold sequined cap, thus becoming viral. But, whar really caught the attention of everyone was his carefree moves and the happiness he transmitted through the Fifth Avenue.

Por supuesto, aún vivimos en una sociedad que juzga y critica todo aquello que considera ''fuera de lo normal''. Pero, alguien puede decirme qué es normal y qué no. Fueron muchos los que criticaron esta aparición por considerarla inapropiada y muchos los que criticaron a su madre, Wendylou Napoles, por haberle dejado hacerlo. Obviamente, no se quedó callada. Podéis encontrar fácilmente en Internet su respuesta que, básicamente, se resume en aceptar la diversidad y respetarla.

Of course, we still live in a society which judges and criticises everything that consideres as ''not normall''. But, can anyone tell what is normal and what it is not. There were many people who went against this participation as they considered it innapropiate thus criticising also his mother, Wendylou Napoles, for letting him do it. Obviously, she did not remain quiet. It is very easy to find her response on the Internet which, basically, can be summed up as a message of respect and acceptance towards diversity.

Me gustaría darle las gracias tanto a Desmond y a su madre por contestar unas preguntas para este post pero sobre todo, me gustaría agradecer a sus padres el ser tan alucinantes. Todos conocemos a niños y niñas que, por su forma de ser, no encajan en la sociedad actual. Seamos conscientes de que es muy probable que estos niños sufran acoso en el colegio y en su entorno por ser ''distintos''. No se lo pongamos más difícil. Hay que celebrar la diversidad, es lo que nos hace ser únicos.

I would like to thank both Desmond and his mom for answering a few questions for this post but, above all, I would like to thank his parents for being so incredible. We all know little boys and girls who, for being the way they are, do not fit in this society. We have to be conscious that these kids might be suffering from bullying at school and within their environment for being ''different''.  Do not make ir harder for them. Let's celebrate diversity, that is what makes us unique.

Aquí os dejo las preguntas y su respuestas para que conozcáis un poco mejor a Desmond, más conocido como Desmond Is Amazing. Sin duda hace honor a su nombre. Todo lo que ha conseguido desde el 2015 es brutal: desfilar en la NYFW, sesiones de fotos para Vogue, fundador de Haus of Amazing... Sin duda, lo que él y sus padres hacen, es un ejemplo a seguir para todos.

So, here you have the questions and the answers so you can get to know him a little bit better. Desmond is Amazing (as everybody knows him) really lives up to his name. All he's achieved since 2015 is massive: catwalking at the NYFW, shootings for Vogue, founder of Haus of Amazing... What Desmond and his parents are doing should be an example to follow for everyone.

- ¿Piensas alguna vez en el futuro? ¿Qué te gustaría ser de mayor?

Cuando crezca quiero seguir haciendo exactamente lo que hago ahora. Quiero seguir haciendo drag y ser un defensor de los derechos LGTBQ.

- Have you ever though about the future? What would you like to be when you grow up?

When I grow up, I want to be doing exactly what I am doing now. I want to do drag and be an LGBTQ advocate.

- Tu carrera como activista es increíble y ya te has convertido en un gran referente para mucha gente. Desde que tú foto en el Orgullo de Nueva York de 2015 se hizo viral y todo el mundo empezó a conocer tu nombre, ¿recuerdas algún momento en particular o a alguien que hayas conocido que recuerdes con mayor ilusión?

Uno de los momentos que más feliz me hizo fue cuando recibí el premio Marsha P. Johnson Don't Be Outraged, Be Outrageous de Heritage of Pride (organizadores oficiales del Orgullo de Nueva York). Y una de las personas que he conocido desde entonces y que fue increíble, fue cuando conocí a RuPaul el pasado año en la DragCon de Nueva York. Me hizo subir al escenario para cortar juntos el lazo de apertura de la ceremonia.

- You're having such an amazing career as an activist and you've become a referent for so many people. Since that picture of you at the NYC Pride in 2015 became viral and everyone started to know your name, is there any event since then or any person that you've met since that moment that you remember with greaterenthusiasm?

One moment that made me most happy was when I received the Marsha P. Johnson Don't Be Outraged, Be Outrageous Award from Heritage of Pride. One person that I met that was amazing was when I met RuPaul last year at DragCon NYC. He called me up on stage and I got to cut the opening ceremony ribbon with him.

- ¿Qué sentiste al desfilar en la NYFW? ¿Fue tu primera vez como modelo? ¿Qué te gusta más, una sesión de fotos o desfilar?

¡Fue increíble poder desfilar en la NYFW! Jamás pensé que tendría la oportunidad de hacerlo, aunque mi primera vez como modelo fue en el 2016, cuando realicé una sesión de fotos para Boys by Girls Magazine, con la fotógrafa Danielle Levitt. Lo que más me gusta es desfilar, aunque en realidad me gustan ambas cosas.

- How did it feel to do a runway show at the NYFW? Was that your first time as a model? What do you ike the mopst: a photoshoot or a catwalk?

It felt amazing to walk in NYFW! I never thought I would ever get the chance to do that. My first time as a model was in 2016 when I did a photo shoot for Boys by Girls Magazine with photographer Danielle Levitt. I like walking the catwalk the most. I like doing both.

- ¿Qué le dirías a todas esas personas que piensan que no deberías maquillarte o hacer drag?

No pierdo el tiempo pensando en ellos. Los haters jamás serán tan fuertes como las personas a las que hacen bullying. A quien no le guste que no mire.

- What would you say to all those people that think that you shouldn't be wearing make up or doing drag?

I just pay them no mind because haters will never be as fierce as the person that they are bullying. If they don't like it then don't look.

- ¿Qué consejo le daría Desmond a la comunidad LGTBQ o, en general, a todos aquellos que tienen miedo de ser ellos mismos porque piensan que no serán aceptados?

Sed vosotros mismos, siempre. Ese es mi lema. Deberías poder expresarte siempre como tú quieras hacerlo, sin dejar que nadie nunca te diga cómo hacer las cosas. Además, el drag no entiende de edad, raza, orientación, género, identidad o habilidades. El drag es para todos.

- Does Desmond have any advice for the LGTBQ community or, in general, to all of those who are so afraid to be themselves because they think they won't be accepted?

Just be yourself, always. That's my motto. You should express yourself however you want to and never let anyone say that you have to be this way or that way. Also, drag is for anyone and everyone regardless of age, race, orientation, gender, identity, or ability.

Cómo tiene que molar la profesión de modelo, verdad? Posar para los mejores fotógrafos, vestir la ropa de las mejores marcas, viajar por todo el mundo... Lo cierto es que son muy pocos los que pueden hacer de esto una profesión y poder ganarse la vida desfilando y haciendo sesiones de fotos. Por eso, hoy os traigo un documental que está en Youtube y que está dividido en 6 partes, de no más de 10 minutos cada una, en el cual varios modelos masculinos nos cuentan su historia en el mundo de la moda. FA-KING UNICORN | Pure Irreverence & Subversion

Hola fashioneros! La primavera ya está aquí, aunque en algunos sitios todavía se esté haciendo de rogar. Y qué implica una nueva estación... pues NUEVAS COLECCIONES! La que os quiero enseñar hoy es la nueva colección primavera/verano 2015 de FA-KING UNICORN, y para los que todavía no conozcáis esta marca, a continuación os dejo toda la info!

FA-KING UNICORN es una marca rebelde y atrevida que viene de la mano de la bloggera de moda y, ante todo, amiga, Jehni Modaddiction (modaddiction.net). Y es que Jehni... es mucha Jehni!! Espontánea, divertida, cariñosa y palabrotera como pocas, se cambia más de color de pelo que de zapatos! Compagina su trabajo en una empresa de marketing con su mayor pasión, la moda. También colabora en el programa de TV A Tu Bola, con una sección de moda y tendencias, y como no puede estarse quieta ni un solo segundo, hace un año decidió crear su propia marca de ropa junto a su churri, y cuya colección SS'15 presentaron en una fiesta/showroom que montaron en su casa, en la que no faltó mucha fa-king party y, ante todo, muchos amigos. 

Fue hace un año cuando a Jehni se le encendió la bombillita. Cansada de las producciones en masa, decidió crear su propia marca de ropa, una marca alternativa y con mucha personalidad (pues como Jehni). La inspiración le llega a uno cuando menos se lo espera, y a Jehni le llegó en el gimnasio (sí, también tiene tiempo para ir al gym). Con un plan de marketing bien estudiado, Cristóbal (su churri) y ella se lanzaron a la aventura, y esta colección que viene bajo el lema ''Pure Irreverence & Subversion'', ya es la tercera. En cuanto al nombre, el unicornio es la criatura mitológica favorita de Jehni y como ya os he dicho, también le gusta decir palabrotas, así pues, jugando un poco con las palabras y castellanizando un poco el asunto, de la unión de fuck, king y unicorn surgió FA-KING UNICORN.

Para esta colección, han vuelto a contar con la colaboración de la youtuber GemmaTheFucker (haz click AQUÍ para ver su canal), cuyas fotitos de la sesión y making of, grabado en pleno Raval barcelonés, podéis ver un poquito más abajo. Según palabras de su creadora, esta colección se inspira ''en 'el barrio', en el colegueo, en las tardes de verano disfrutando del buen tiempo en el parque, en las visitas al badulaque con la gula de las 19:30h, en el buen rollo y la diversión de buena compañía''.

Hello fashioneros! Spring's already here, though some places haven't seen it yet. And a new season basically implies... NEW COLLECTIONS! The one I wanna show to you today is the new spring/summer 2015 collection of FA-KING UNICORN, and for those of you who still don't know this brand, here it comes all the info!

FA-KING UNICORN is a rebeld and daring firm which was born due to the fashion blogger and, above all, my friend, Jehni Modaddiction (modaddiction.net). Jehni is.. Jehni is too much! Spontaneous, funny, loving and swearer, she changes her hair colour more often than she changes her shoes! She combines her job at a marketing company with her biggest passion: fashion. She also collaborates in the TV programme A Tu Bola, with a section of fashion and tendencies and, as she can't stop for a second, she decided to create one year ago her own brand together with her boy. The new SS'15 collection was presented at her place with a party/showroom, with a massive fa-king party and lots of friends.

It was a year ago when the idea came up to Jehni's head. Tired of mass productions, she decided to create her own clothing line, a very alternative brand full of personality (faithful reflection of Jehni). Inspiration comes when you don't expect it and, for Jehni, it came when she was at the gym (yeap, she has time to go to the gym). With a very well structured marketing project, Cristóbal (her boyfriend) and she went for it, and this collection which cames under the slogan of ''Pure Irreverence & Subversion'' is already the third one. As for the name of the brand, the unicorn is Jehni's favourite mythological creature. As I've already told you, she loves swearing so, playing with words a little bit and make it sound a little bit more Spanish, joining fuck, king and unircorn, FA-KING UNICORN emerged.

For this collection, they've worked again with the youtuber GemmaTheFucker (click HERE to watch her channel). You can see some pictures of the shoot and the making of, recorded at the Raval (Barcelona), a bit further above. According to the words of her own creator, this collection gets the inspiration ''from 'the neighbourhood', the buddyness, the summer afternoons enjoying the nice weather in the park, the visits to the Kwik-E-Mart with the typical hunger of the 19,30h, and the good vibes and fun of a good company''.

Von Wong and his Mermaids

Hoy os quiero hablar de una sesión de fotos muy especial. Una de esas sesiones poco habituales, pero con un resultado sencillamente espectacular. 

El artífice de todo es el fotógrafo canadiense Benjamin Von Wong, y el escenario las preciosas aguas de Bali. Para ser más exactos, unos 25 metros por debajo de las preciosas aguas de Bali. 

Para llevar a cabo este trabajo, Von Wong contó con un equipo técnico experto en submarinismo y con modelos que son expertas buceadoras, capaces de aguantar la respiración hasta 4 minutos. 

Ayudadas por botellas de oxígeno, y en ocasiones de cuerdas para amarrarse a las rocas y así conseguir el resultado esperado, las modelos llegaron a posar como auténticas sirenas. 

Sin duda, es una de esas sesiones que cualquier modelo desearía realizar. Os dejo las fotos y un vídeo de cómo se hizo la sesión. ¿A qué son alucinantes?

Today, I want to talk about a very special photoshoot. It is one of those photoshoots which are quite rare, but which have a simply spectacular result.

The author is the Canadian photographer Benjamin Von Wong, and the set is the beautiful beaches of Bali. To be more precise, 25 metres (more or less) under the beautiful beaches of Bali.

In order to carry out this work, Von Wong had a team with a great knowledge of diving and also with models who are able to hold their breath for four minutes.

Sometimes helped by oxygen bottles, sometimes tied to rocks with ropes, the models posed as if they were real mermaids.

There is no doubt that this is one of those photoshoots that any model would love to do. Enjoy the pictures and the making of. Just amazing, isn´t it?
