Long Live Reino de Juguetes!

Érase una vez unas galerías comerciales situadas en pleno centro de Barcelona. Puede que aquellos que seáis de Barna y que tengáis una edad no muy avanzada, no os suene de nada el nombre de Galeries Maldà, pero estas galerías eran todo un referente durante los años 70 y 80. De hecho, fueron las primeras galerías comerciales de Barcelona, y están construidas en lo que antiguamente era el Palau Maldá, el palacio en el que residía Rafael d'Amat i de Cortada, más conocido como el Barón de Maldá. 

Once upon a time there was a shopping gallery located in Barcelona city center. Those of you who are quite young may not know anything about the Galeries Maldà, but this mall was pretty famous in the 70s and the 80s. In fact, it was the first shopping mall opened in Barcelona. Formerly it was known as the Palau Maldà, a palace in which Rafael d'Amat i de Cortada, mostly well-known as Baron Maldà, used to live.

A día de hoy las galerías no tienen (de momento) tanta fama como antaño, pero hace cosa de un año un príncipe al que todos conocen como Rubén llegó a lomos de su noble corcel y decidió que ese sería el lugar donde su reino tomaría forma, un reino al que llamaría Reino de Juguetes. Con un buen puñado de ilusiones, plantó una habichuela mágica que se convirtió en Carreró Maldà, la primera tienda temática de España dedicada al gran universo de Harry Potter. Fue tal el éxito, que a esta tienda pronto le siguieron Thronestore BCN (dedicada a Juego de Tronos), Funko Barcelona (que actualmente cuenta con más de 1200 referencias de figuras Funko Pop) y KameHame Shop (dedicada a Dragon Ball). Todas ellas están ambientadas al 100%, desde la decoración, a la música, como los uniformes, para hacer que la experiencia sea completa.
Nowadays, the mall is not as famous as it used to be (for the moment). Although, almost a yer ago a prince named Rubén arrived to the mall riding his noble steed and he decided to turn the place into his kingdom, a kingdom called Reino de Juguetes. Full of hope, he planted a magical bean and it rapidly grew into Carreró Maldà, the first thematic shop of Spain about the great Harry Potter world. It was such a success, that the opening of the shop was followed by new ones: Thronestore BCN (all about Game of Thrones), Funko Barcelona (which currently has more than 1,200 references of Funko Pop) and KameHame Shop (about Dragon Ball). All of them are 100% decorated and the music and uniforms have been chosen to make you feel the whole experience.

Como por arte de magia, las galerías volvieron a cobrar vida, y es que es prácticamente imposible resistirse a la felicidad que irradian los habitantes del reino. Hasta yo mismo no pude evitar ser parte de Reino de Juguetes y durante unos meses, mi alter ego Bertus Snape estuvo al frente de Carreró Maldà, rodeado de varitas, figuras, objetos de coleccionismo y todo lo que te puedas imaginar (y mucho más) de Harry Potter. ¡No os hacéis ni una idea de lo bien que me lo pasé! Bueno, y me lo sigo pasando bien, porque me encanta ir para ver a mis antiguos compañeros y ver las novedades.
As if by magic, the mall started flourishing again, and it is totally comprehensible. No one can resist the happiness that the inhabitants of the kingdom irradiate. Even myself couldn't help becoming a part of Reino de Juguetes. For several months, my alter ego Bertus Snape was at Carreró Maldà surrounded by wands, figures, replicas of collecting objects and everything that you can imagine (and much more) about Harry Potter. You couldn't imagine the great time that I spent there! Actually, I'm still having a good time 'cause I love returning to the kingdom quite frequently to visit my former fellows and see what's new.

Prácticamente un año más tarde desde que se plantó esa primera habichuela en las galerías, el Príncipe Rubén, cuyo único deseo es llenar el mundo de más y más magia, ha hecho posible que exista un Carreró Maldá II porque, para qué engañarnos, uno nunca se cansa de Harry Potter. ¿Pero, qué podréis encontrar en una y en otra?
Almost a year later since that first bean was planted in the mall, Prince Rubén, whose major desire is to fill up the world with more and more magic, has planted the Carreró Maldà II. To be honest, it is impossible to get tired about Harry Potter. But, what can you find in the two of them?

En Carreró Maldà tenéis todo el merchandising habido y por haber de la saga. La tienda está dividida en las cuatro Casas de Hogwarts (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw y Slytherin), en las cuales encontraréis artículos específicos de dichas Casas pero también más genéricos (desde el andén 9 3/4, pasando por Dobby, las Reliquias de la Muerte y hasta una sección sobre Animales Fantásticos). Hay, entre otras muchas cosas: lámparas; peluches; felpudos; placas; puzzles; tazas; camisetas y sudaderas; juegos de mesa; libros y un montón de cosas necesarias para vuelta al cole, como mochilas, carpetas, agendas o bolígrafos, y por supuesto las capas de mago, grageas de todos los sabores, ranas de chocolate con cromos y cerveza de mantequilla.
At Carreró Maldà you will find a whole world of merchandising about the saga. The store is divided into the four different Houses of Hogwarts (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin), with specific items of the Houses but also with more generic ones (all about Platform 9 3/4, Dobby, the Deathly Hallows and also a section about Fantastic Beasts). At Carreró Maldà II there're plenty of deluxe articles. Both stores about Harry Potter, and also the other three that belong to Reino de Juguetes are the perfect place to get lost and let yourself go by magic and fantasy, and also to reconnect with that inner child that all of us have inside, but most of the times we forget about his existence. Este año creo que me he portado bastante bien, así que espero que no sea muy tarde para escribiros la carta. A lo mejor me excedo un poquito con la lista de cosas que os piso, pero sois tres, así que estoy seguro de que os las podréis apañar. Bienvenido a España, UNIQLO!

Hoy me he ido de inauguración, y es que UNIQLO por fin ha aterrizado en España y lo ha hecho por todo lo alto. Su nueva tienda se encuentra en el número 18 de Passeig de Gràcia (Barcelona) y claro, no podía perdérmelo!

Es curioso donde se encuentra la tienda, ya que está justo enfrente a Zara, Y es que podría decirse que UNIQLO es a Zara lo que su fundador, Tadashi Yanay, es a Amancio Ortega. Pero se ve que Tadashi ha tirado la casa por la ventana y ha dicho, para qué abrir solo una tienda cuando puedo abrir dos. Dicho y hecho. El 9 de noviembre, en el Centro Comercial Glòries, UNIQLO abrirá su segunda tienda en España.

Si os soy sincero, lo que he visto no me ha terminado mucho de convencer. Bueno, no es que no me convenza, si no que tratándose de una firma japonesa, me esperaba otro tipo de ropa, algo más arriesgado tal vez y a lo que no estamos acostumbrados a ver en Europa. También es verdad que había mucha gente y era un poco agobiante. Me volveré a pasar cuando las aguas vuelvan a su cauce y verlo todo con más calma. De lo que he visto así por encima, hacen honor al lema ''essentials'' que puede verse por toda la tienda. Prendas y colores básicos, para hombre y para mujer (la ropa para bebé y niño puede adquirirse online) y una línea deportiva con tejidos muy finos y de secado rápido. He investigado un poco y estos tejidos están hechos gracias a la tecnología ''heat tech''. A grandes rasgos, son tejidos que mezclan cuatro tipos de hilo distintos que absorben la humedad del cuerpo transformándola en calor, y además hacen que la prenda sea más cómoda!

Hay varias cosas que me han llamado la atención de la tienda. Una es la mezcla entre lo moderno y lo antiguo, con los letreros luminosos en las columnas y los leds en contraste con la súper lámpara de la foto y las preciosas vidrieras de la primera planta. Otra es el quiosco, en el que se pueden pedir prendas que no están disponibles en esa tienda, y te las envían a casa. Además de las colecciones cápsula diseñadas por JW Anderson e Inès de la Fressange.

I went to an opening this afternoon as UNIQLO has finally come to Spain, and it seems that it knows how to make an entry. The new store is located at Passeig de Gràcia 18 (Barcelona). I couldn't miss the opportunity to go and see it with my own eyes!

The store is in front of Zara, just across the street. This is something curios as many people compare UNIQLO to Zara and, of course,its founder, Tadashi Yanay, to Amancio Ortega. But it seems that Tadashi wasn't really happy with the idea of opening just one store, so he's decided to open a second one. This one, also in Barcelona, will open its doors on November 9th, at the shopping mall called Glóries.

To be honest, what I've seen didn't convince me that much. Well, maybe ''convince'' is not the word, but I did expect something different. Considering this is a Japanese firm, I expected something more risky, something we're not used to seeing here in Europe. Nevertheless, the thing is that today there were too many people inside and it was a bit stressful. I'll come back when everything gets back to normal. It totally deserves a second chance. They do honour the slogan which is written through out the store: essentials. Basic colours and clothes, both for men and women (kids and babies clothes can be bought online) and there's also a sport clothing line made out of thin fabrics and that get dried so easily. I did a bit research and they employ the ''heat tech'' technology. It basically consists on fabrics of four different types of thread which absorb the humidity of the body turning it into heat. Besides, the clothes are more comfortable too!

There're several things of the store that have catched my attention. One of them is the mixture between modern and old, with the illuminated slogans in the columns and the leds in contrast with the huge lamp of the window and the beautiful stained glasses of the first floor. Another thing is the kiosk, where you can order clothes which are not avilable at the store and they will send them to your home. And, of course, the capsule collections of JW Anderson and Inés de la Fressange.

HAIRY? POPair? Muchos no tendréis ni idea de lo que os estoy hablando, por eso dejad que os ponga en antecedentes. POPair es una fiesta mensual que se celebra en Barcelona desde 2008. Concretamente, tiene lugar en la Metro Disco y el target principal son los bears, es decir, los ositos (y aquí os voy a poner la definición que da la Wikipedia porque me parece muy graciosa, aunque no se ajuste mucho, pero vamos, que para que os hagáis una idea de lo que implica el término para los que no lo conocíais es más que suficiente):

La comunidad de osos es una subcultura dentro de la comunidad gay. En el argot homosexual, se considera osos a los hombres gais de cuerpo fornido y con abundante vello facial y corporal. Los osos exhiben una actitud masculina, y generalmente rehuyen del estereotipo de homosexual afeminado.

Pero vamos al tema, que me disperso. Como bien os decía, el target principal de la fiesta POPair son los osos, pero es obvio que puede ir QUIEN QUIERA! Mañana celebran un especial I Want Your Sex en la Metro Disco, y no, no es casualidad que el nacimiento del fanzine tenga lugar en la misma semana.

Como ellos mismos han declarado, el primer número es una edición completamente dedicada al sexo. Os aseguro que después de ver las fotos a tamaño XXL expuestas ayer en las paredes de Bacanal Café y después de ojear el fanzine, han logrado un número de lo más erótico-festivo. Desnudos explícitos, ilustraciones, relatos y mucho pelo pero, sobre todo, colaboraciones de lujo y fotografías con una estética muy cuidada obra de un grande como es Torres Ibarzo. HAIRY recuerda a esos fanzines grapados de antaño, pero con el buen saber hacer de Albertoto (director artístico) y de ChaCha Studio (maquetación).

Sobra decir que la presentación fue todo un éxito. Mucha gente dentro y fuera de Bacanal brindando por el nacimiento de HAIRY con una Estrella Galicia bien fresquita (o unas cuantas) y musicote del bueno con Albertoto. Por cierto, mañana en la Metro Disco seguirán repartiendo fanzines gratuitos a los 400 primeros asistentes, así que si todavía no lo tienes y quieres hacerte con el tuyo, ya tienes plan para la noche del viernes!

Hairy? POPair? I'm sure many of you don't know what I'm talking about, so let me give you some background. POPair is a monthly party which takes places in Barcelona since 2008. To be more precise, it takes place at the Metro Disco and its main target are bears (what you're about to read is the definition that Wikipedia provides. Though I disagree with it a little bit, it's quite funny and for those of you who aren't familiarise with the term, it'll help you):

''In male gay culture, a bear is often a larger, hairier man who projects an image of rugged masculinity.'' 

So, as I was telling you, POPair's main target are bears but, it's more than obvious that EVERYONE IS WELCOMED! They're celebrating tomorrow at Metro Disco a special edition of I Want Your Sex. And no, it's not a casualty that the first issue of its fanzine was launched on the same week.

Echoing their words, this first issue is completely dedicated to sex. I trully can assure you that after seeing the XXL pictures on the walls of Bacanal Café and after taking a look to the fanzine, they've achieved quite an erotic and naughty publication. Explicit nudity, illustrations, stories and plenty of hair but, above all, deluxe collaborations and highly aesthetic pictures taken by Torres Ibarzo. HAIRY recalls those all fanzines, but clearly improved by Albertoto (the artistic director) and ChaCha Studio (layout).

Of course, the presentation was a huge success. Plenty of people inside and outside Bacanal, celebrating that HAIRY's finally born with fresh beer by Estrella Galicia and cool music by Albertoto. By the way, they'll be giving free fanzines tomorrow at the Metro Disco to the first 400. If you want to get yours, you already have a plan for Friday night!

Rafting con Amextreme Aventura

Porque en este blog no solo se habla de moda, y porque me da la gana y porque el neopreno me sienta maravillosamente bien, os voy a hablar de lo que hice hace unos días. Aún no había publicado este post porque básicamente estaba esperando a que mi amiga Sandra volviera de pasar unos días en Salamanca con su churri y nos pasara a todos las fotos. Una vez en mi poder, ya puedo haceros a todos partícipes de la tarde tan guay que pasamos.

A ver, la historia empezó porque últimamente mis amigos y yo solo nos juntamos cuando hay comida de por medio. Es decir, o quedamos para tomar algo, o para cenar, o algo de ese estilo... Así que nos pusimos serios y dijimos, tenemos que hacer algo diferente. Y de la infinita lista de cosas que ahora tenemos pendientes por hacer, el sábado pasado tocó hacer rafting por el Río Ulla en Herbón (Padrón, A Coruña) de la mano de Amextreme Aventura.

Antes de nada, la experiencia es súper recomendable. No necesitáis tener ningún tipo de conocimiento previo sobre el rafting, ni ser deportistas ni nada de eso, y os lo digo yo que hago 0 deporte (ya he perdido la cuenta del tiempo que llevo diciendo que me voy a apuntar al gimnasio). Además los monitores son geniales, y el tiempo en el río (unas tres horas) se hace súper ameno y entretenido, y además didáctico. Aprendes cosas sobre la flora y fauna del río, y nuestro monitor, Hadrián (sí, con H), había estudiado historia, y a lo largo del recorrido del río nos iba explicando cosas de antiguas edificaciones, molinos de agua, técnicas de pesca que heredamos de los romanos, etc.

También he de decir que en esta época del año, el rafting que se hace es mucho más suave (al menos en este río, tampoco tengo otras referencias). A parte de que no ha llovido mucho en Galicia en los últimos meses, el tipo de rafting que hicimos no era tan duro como si lo hubiésemos hecho en invierno, ya que con las lluvias el río lleva más caudal y el rafting es más intenso. Lo bueno de que no hubiera tantos rápidos, es que teníamos más margen para hacer juegos, tirarnos al agua, saltar de unas balsas a las otras.

En definitiva, volvería a hacer rafting sin pensarlo, y yo personalmente estoy encantado con el trato de Amextreme Aventura. Si estáis por Galicia y os apetece disfrutar del buen tiempo haciendo algo diferente con amigos, entrad en su web y veréis que tienen otras muchas actividades tanto de agua, aire o tierra.

Because there's not only fashion in this blog, because I want to and, above all, because the wetsuit makes me so damn hot, I'm gonna tell what I did some days ago. I hadn't posted this before for a very simple reason. I was waiting for my friend Sandra to come back from her short holidays in Salamanca with her bf so she can send the rest of us the pictures from that day. Well, now that I have them all, I can tell you everything about the great time we spent. 

Everything started because lately, my friends and I only gather when there's food involved. I mean, we only meet for having dinner together and that kind of stuff... So we decided to begin planning different activities to do together. Now we have an endless list of things to do together and, among them all, we chose to rafting last Saturday through the River Ulla in Herbón (Padrón, A Coruña) thanks to Amextreme Aventura.

I should begin by telling you that the experience is totally appealing. You don't need to have any kind of previous knowledge about doing rafting, or be used to doing sports and that kind of stuff (trust me, I hate doing physical exercise. In fact, I've been telling myself that I'll go to the gym since... well, I don't remember since when). Besides, the instructors are pretty cool and the time that we spend in the river (three hours more or less) is quite fun and entertaining, and also educational. We learned about the different plants and animals that live in the river and at its shores. Our monitos, Hadrián (yes, with H), who had studied History, told us a lot of interesting data about the different constructions we were seeing along the river, the old water mills, fishing techniques that we've taken from the Romans, etc. 

It's important to know that during this time of the year, the rafting that you can practise is softer (well, at least in this river, I don't have any more references). Taking into account that it hasn't rained a lot in Galicia for the past few months, the type of rafting that we did wasn't as hard as if we'd made it in winter. This is because due to the rain, the flow of the river is larger and that makes the rafting more intense. The good thing about this is that we could play more and do different games such as jump into the water more times, or jump from one raft to the other.

Definitely, I'd do rafting again with no doubt. I'm so happy about how Amextreme Aventura treated us. Yo particularmente soy de los que piensan que cualquier día del año es bueno para sorprender a alguien al que quieres, sin necesidad de gastarse mucho dinero. Y ojo, digo ''alguien'' porque no sólo se tiene porque celebrar San Valentín con tu pareja. Las personas solteras también tienen derecho. Así que, tratándose del día del amor, celebrarlo con todas las personas a las que queráis: padres, hermanos, amigos... y qué fluya el amor!

Tampoco soy especialmente partidario de regalar cosas materiales en San Valentín. Y reconozco que lo de regalar (o que me regalen) flores no me gusta mucho (si teníais pensado regalármelas, cambiadlas por bombones, que les sacaré más partido!), pero sí que me gusta hacer algún plan especial con mi pareja y disfrutarlo los dos, aunque este año nos toca pasarlo separados :(

A mi me gustan los planes sencillos. Al fin y al cabo lo que de verdad importa es la compañía. Y si en algo me gusta invertir el dinero (además de en ropa), es en viajes y en comer. Sobre todo en comer. Por eso, si queréis empezar el Día de San Valentín  con buen pie y cogiendo fuerzas, curraos un desayuno de 10, que siempre tiene mucho más mérito hacerlo uno mismo. Aunque hoy en día hay muchas empresas que se dedican a traerte el desayuno que tú encargues a casa, como por ejemplo: Regalo Original o Los Desayunos de la Abuela.

Yo soy de los que se levantan tarde y con un café aguanta hasta la hora de la comida, por eso en mi caso, lo que suelo hacer es reservar sitio para cenar, a poder ser en algún restaurante en el que nunca haya estado. Soy de buen comer, así que intento buscar un sitio en el que la relación calidad precio sea buena, y que las cantidades sean generosas. Por cierto, para eso TripAdvisor es un buen aliado. 

Si ya lo que buscáis es tirar la casa por la ventana y además de la cena romántica (y de algún detalle a mayores, como flores, bombones o joyas) queréis rematar la noche por todo lo alto, siempre podéis reservar una noche de hotel, y si sois de esas personas súper detallistas y románticas, pasaos antes por la habitación y ponedla a tono: unos pétalos, unas velitas (con cuidado de no quemar nada), una botellita de champán... y que siga fluyendo el amor!

Hagáis lo que hagáis, recordad siempre que hay muchos tipos de amor y que todos merecen ser celebrados. Feliz Día de San Valentín a todos!

Tomorrow is said to be the most romantic day of the year. Particularly, I think that any time of the year is a good ocassion to surprise someone you love, without spending too much money. And I say ''someone'' because it's not necessary to celebrate Valentine's Day with your lover (single people have to right to celebrate it too). So, being the day of love, celebrate it with all those people you love: parents, siblings, friends... and let the love flow!

I also think that giving material things on Valentine's Day isn't that necessary. Y recognise that giving (or being given) flowers is something I don't like that much (so if you were going to send me flowers, turn them into chocolates, I'll enjoy them much better!). What I really like is to plan something special with my partner so we both can enjoy it, though this year we have to spend it separated :(

I love simple plans. At the end, what really matters is the company. I love spending money (of course buying clothes, but also) on trips and food. Specially on food. So, if you want to begin Valentine's Day on the right foot, make the perfect breakfast. Of course, if you do it yourself it'll have an extra value, but nowadays there're plenty of sites that deliver the breakfast at your place, such as: Regalo Original or Los Desayunos de la Abuela.

I'm one of those people that like getting up late and who drinks a coffee for breakfast and that's all so, in my case, I rather book a table for dinner at a nice restaurant (a restaurant where I haven't been before, preferably). I love eating, so I try to find a plce where the relation between que quality and the price is balanced, and with generous dishes. By the way, TripAdvisor can help you a lot with that.

If what you're looking for is to finish the night with fireworks and, apart from the romantic dinner (and an extra gift such as flowers, chocolates or jewelry) you're looking for something else, you also can book a hotel room for that night. Besides, if your very romantic and attentive, go to the hotel before meeting your date and leave some petals, candles (do not burn anything, please), a bottle of champagne... and let the love keep on flowing!

Whatever you do, just remember that there're many types of love and that all of them deserve to be celebrated. Happy Valentin'es Day for you all!
