HAIRY? POPair? Muchos no tendréis ni idea de lo que os estoy hablando, por eso dejad que os ponga en antecedentes. POPair es una fiesta mensual que se celebra en Barcelona desde 2008. Concretamente, tiene lugar en la Metro Disco y el target principal son los bears, es decir, los ositos (y aquí os voy a poner la definición que da la Wikipedia porque me parece muy graciosa, aunque no se ajuste mucho, pero vamos, que para que os hagáis una idea de lo que implica el término para los que no lo conocíais es más que suficiente):

La comunidad de osos es una subcultura dentro de la comunidad gay. En el argot homosexual, se considera osos a los hombres gais de cuerpo fornido y con abundante vello facial y corporal. Los osos exhiben una actitud masculina, y generalmente rehuyen del estereotipo de homosexual afeminado.

Pero vamos al tema, que me disperso. Como bien os decía, el target principal de la fiesta POPair son los osos, pero es obvio que puede ir QUIEN QUIERA! Mañana celebran un especial I Want Your Sex en la Metro Disco, y no, no es casualidad que el nacimiento del fanzine tenga lugar en la misma semana.

Como ellos mismos han declarado, el primer número es una edición completamente dedicada al sexo. Os aseguro que después de ver las fotos a tamaño XXL expuestas ayer en las paredes de Bacanal Café y después de ojear el fanzine, han logrado un número de lo más erótico-festivo. Desnudos explícitos, ilustraciones, relatos y mucho pelo pero, sobre todo, colaboraciones de lujo y fotografías con una estética muy cuidada obra de un grande como es Torres Ibarzo. HAIRY recuerda a esos fanzines grapados de antaño, pero con el buen saber hacer de Albertoto (director artístico) y de ChaCha Studio (maquetación).

Sobra decir que la presentación fue todo un éxito. Mucha gente dentro y fuera de Bacanal brindando por el nacimiento de HAIRY con una Estrella Galicia bien fresquita (o unas cuantas) y musicote del bueno con Albertoto. Por cierto, mañana en la Metro Disco seguirán repartiendo fanzines gratuitos a los 400 primeros asistentes, así que si todavía no lo tienes y quieres hacerte con el tuyo, ya tienes plan para la noche del viernes!

Hairy? POPair? I'm sure many of you don't know what I'm talking about, so let me give you some background. POPair is a monthly party which takes places in Barcelona since 2008. To be more precise, it takes place at the Metro Disco and its main target are bears (what you're about to read is the definition that Wikipedia provides. Though I disagree with it a little bit, it's quite funny and for those of you who aren't familiarise with the term, it'll help you):

''In male gay culture, a bear is often a larger, hairier man who projects an image of rugged masculinity.'' 

So, as I was telling you, POPair's main target are bears but, it's more than obvious that EVERYONE IS WELCOMED! They're celebrating tomorrow at Metro Disco a special edition of I Want Your Sex. And no, it's not a casualty that the first issue of its fanzine was launched on the same week.

Echoing their words, this first issue is completely dedicated to sex. I trully can assure you that after seeing the XXL pictures on the walls of Bacanal Café and after taking a look to the fanzine, they've achieved quite an erotic and naughty publication. Explicit nudity, illustrations, stories and plenty of hair but, above all, deluxe collaborations and highly aesthetic pictures taken by Torres Ibarzo. HAIRY recalls those all fanzines, but clearly improved by Albertoto (the artistic director) and ChaCha Studio (layout).

Of course, the presentation was a huge success. Plenty of people inside and outside Bacanal, celebrating that HAIRY's finally born with fresh beer by Estrella Galicia and cool music by Albertoto. By the way, they'll be giving free fanzines tomorrow at the Metro Disco to the first 400. If you want to get yours, you already have a plan for Friday night!

The 80s, the Raves and a Big SMILEY Face!

¿Quién no ha usado alguna vez el emoticono de la flamenca escribiendo por What'sApp? ¿Cuántas veces no habremos usado alguna de las decenas de caritas redondas y amarillas para expresar un sentimiento en lugar de escribirlo? Profesiones, paisajes, animales... la cantidad de emojis no para de crecer y de hacerse cada vez más popular, tanto que ya nos es casi imposible concebir nuestra vida tecnológica sin estos pequeños dibujos pero, ¿os habéis preguntado alguna vez su origen?

Se podría afirmar que el padre de los emojis es el SMILEY. Sí, esa simple carita sonriente abrió paso a todo un sin fin de expresiones, objetos, lugares y otros muchos emoticones (muchos de ellos bastante inútiles, todo hay que decirlo) de los que se compone el diccionario emoji. Pero, ¿cuándo apareció el smiley?

Aquellos que han vivido los 80 se acordarán perfectamente de la moda acid, que a su vez tiene sus orígenes en el acid house, un subgénero de dicho estilo musical. El acid house se hizo tremendamente popular en esa década y no podía faltar en las discotecas ni en cualquier rave que se preciara. Su símbolo: el smiley, una gran carita redonda y amarilla sonriente, metáfora del efecto que producían las drogas, sobre todo la más popular en las fiestas por aquel entonces, el éxtasis.

Cuando se dice que en la moda ya está todo inventado, es que ya está (prácticamente) todo inventado. Hoy en día los 80 y el acid house vuelven a estar muy presentes en la moda. Pantalones de cintura alta, colores flúor, crop tops, el denim (sobre todo en forma de peto y cazadora), camisetas y sudaderas oversize, y hasta las bandanas son, hoy en día, muestra del gran impacto cultural que tuvo la época de los 80.

Have you ever used the emoticon of the flamenca on What'sApp? I bet you did. And what about all those yellow round little faces to express a feeling, instead of writing it? Jobs, landscapes, animals... the amount of emojis is growing so fast and they're becoming more and more popular. It's actually quite hard to imagine our lives without those little drawings but, have you ever wondered where they come from?

It could be said that the father of the emojis is the SMILEY. Yes, that simple little face with a big smile was the starting point to a whole world of expressions, objects, places and many more emoticons (some of them pretty useless, truth be told) that form the emoji dictionary. Though, when did the smiley appear for the first time?

Those who lived in the 80s will perfectly remember the acid fashion, which has its roots within a subgender of the house music known as acid house. This style became massively popular in that decade and it was a must in every disco and rave. Its symbol: the smiley, a big yellow round face with a huge smile from side to side, a metaphor of the effect that the drugs caused on people, above all the most popular at those parties, the ecstasy.

It is said that, in fashion, everything is already invented. Well, that's true, (almost) everything is invented. Nowadays, the 80s and the acid house are quite present in the fashion industry. High-waisted trousers, fluoride colours, crop tops, denim (above all as jackets and dungarees), oversize tees and hoodies, and even bandanas are the living proof of the huge cultural impact of the 80s.

Discovering Manuel Bolaño's New Atelier

Esta semana Barcelona rebosa moda por los 4 puntos cardinales. Sumidos en plena 080 BCN Fashion Week, también hay lugar para otro tipo de eventos, como el que tuvo ayer lugar en Carrer Gran de Gracia 239. Y es que ayer por la tarde Manuel Bolaño inauguraba en Barcelona su nuevo atelier, dejando así su anterior centro de trabajo en Carrer d'Aragó. Y como no quería perdérmelo, allí estuve yo con Isma para ver lo que este diseñador catalán de raíces gallegas, que ha vivido a medio camino entre la tierra del pulpo y la de los calçots, nos tenía preparados.

Un espacio súper amplio, de techos muy altos y suelos hidráulicos, al más puro estilo catalán. Una maravilla de sitio, vamos. Las dos zonas más importantes, la del atelier y la del showroom, están separadas por un largo pasillo, y a mitad de este pasillo, justo en frente a la entrada principal, te da la bienvenida un maniquí maravillosamente vestido de Manuel Bolaño.

Bolaño lleva años dedicándose al mundo de la moda. Empezó a estudiar diseño en el 2002 y ha trabajado como diseñador para Mango hasta que decidió hacer carrera en solitario. Ha ganado varios premios. El primero en el 2007, siendo el mejor de su promoción, y también es una de las caras más conocidas de la 080 Barcelona Fashion.

This week Barcelona is full of fashion. While celebrating the 080 BCN Fashion Week, there're also room for other type of events, such as the one that took place yesterday at Carrer Gran de Fracia 239. Yesterday in the afternoon Manuel Bolaño celebrated the opening in Barcelona of his new atelier, thus leaving the one he had at Carrer d'Aragó. And as I did't want to miss it, there I was with Isma to see what this Catalan designer with Galician roots, who has lived among the land of the octopus and the land of the calçots, had prepared for us.

It is a really wide space, with high roofs and hidraulic floor, following the traditional Catalan style. It's a very wonderful place, indeed. The two most important spaces, the atelier and the showroom, are separated by a long aisle and, right in the middle of the aisle and just in front of the main entrance there's a manikin beautifully dressed by Manuel Bolaño. 

Bolaño is into the fashion world since quite a long time. He started studying design in 2002 and he also worked as a designer for Mango until he decided to continue on his own. He has won several awards, the first of them in 2007 being the best of his promotion. He's also a well known face within the 080 Barcelona Fashion.

Ismael Álvarez Is Back With More ART, SEX & LIFE!

Pues bien, hoy toca dedicarle otro post ya que acaba de lanzar un libro de ilustraciones que lleva por título ART SEX LIFE, tres palabras que lo definen la mar de bien tanto en lo personal como en lo profesional. No es su primer libro (IA Portfolio el primero, seguido de Completely Stripped e In Yer Face) y seguro que tampoco será el último. ART SEX LIFE es un libro en formato A5 de nada más y nada menos que 200 páginas a todo color con ilustraciones del artista, tanto antiguas como nuevas y unas cuantas fotos MUY personales de Ismael que seguro no dejarán indiferente a nadie.

Pero eso no es todo. Ismael ha contado con una colaboradora de lujo. Tiene un prólogo escrito nada más y nada menos que por Valérie Tasso, sexóloga, escritora, tertuliana en TV y radio y un sin fin de cosas más que hacen de Valérie, al igual que de Ismael, dos artistas multidisciplinares unidos por el ARTE, el SEXO y la VIDA. Este Pikachu es un amiibo. Yo tampoco sabía lo que era, pero básicamente un amiibo es una figura (también hay amiibos en forma de tarjetas) que se usan para conseguir bonificaciones y otros beneficios extras. Yo no tengo ninguna consola con la que poder usarlo, pero me da igual, como maestro Pokemon que pretendo ser, este Pikachu es el compi perfecto!

Parachanclas! & Moritz: The Perfect Match

¿Me echabais de menos? Me he tomado unas vacaciones blogueras porque, afortunadamente, he estado currando en verano y entre eso, los calores y una cosa y otra, necesitaba algo de desconexión. Pero ya estoy aquí, con las pilas cargadas y con ganas de contaros muchas cositas.

Esta primera entrada postvacacional la protagonizan una marca de la que ya os había hablado y que cada día que pasa me gustan más. Son Parachanclas!, firma de calcetines barcelonesa, que en esta ocasión se han aliado con otro de los grandes de la Ciudad Condal para traernos una propuesta fresca y que engancha, como si de una cerveza se tratara. Y, hablando de cerveza, me estoy refiriendo como no a Moritz (qué bien traído lo de la cerveza, eh! Sé que ahora mismo estáis flipando con mi ingenio...).

Para los que no la conozcáis, Moritz es una de las cervezas top catalanas, que además este año cumple 160 años nada más y nada menos. Si algo cabe destacar de Moritz es su nivel de implicación con las actividades culturales y de ocio de Barcelona. La Fàbrica Moritz Barcelona está en la Ronda Sant Antoni, recientemente restaurada y convertida en un chulísimo restaurante donde se come de 10, y que además tiene un espacio que me encanta: la M-Store. Ahí podréis encontrar desde cerveza fresca sin pasteurizar, a un horno de pan Triticum, un quiosco... Es más que una tienda, es un espacio que conjuga tradición y modernidad y en el que poder disfrutar de una buena cerveza y mucho arte!

Aprovechando el maravilloso espacio que es la M-Store, el pasado jueves tuvo lugar la presentación de unos nuevos calcetines que reúnen a la perfección la esencia tanto de Parachanclas! como de Moritz. Con el amarillo y el azul por bandera, y sirviéndose del primer diseño de Parachanclas! como inspiración, el resultado han sido estos chulísimos calcetines de chapas y abridores diseñados por Juan Díaz-Faes que ya estoy deseando ponerme! Además Isma y yo pudimos conocer al fin en persona a los que hacen Parachanclas! posible (entre ellos a Juan), y si ya sus calcetines nos encantan, ellos no nos pudieron gustar aún más! Personas atrevidas, creativas y que, sobre todo, disfrutan con lo que hacen. 

You'd missed me? I needed to be disconected for a while from the blog because, fortunately, I've been working the whole summer and, with the job, the heat, the beach and so on so forth I needed this break. But here I am, with the battery fully loaded and looking forward to telling you a lot of things.

This first post afther the summer break is dedicated to a brand already presented in the blog and which I like more and more everyday. They're Parachanclas!, a brand from Barcelona specialized in socks. In this ocassion they've colaborated with one of the biggest within Barcelona to create a fresh and an addictive proposal, like a good beer. And, talking about beer, I'm refering of course to Moritz (the beer thing has surprised you, hasn't it? I know you're freaking out about my ingenuity righ now...).

For those who still don't know it, Moritz is one os the top beers in Cataluña. This year is its 160th anniversary and if there's something to highlight about Moritz, that's its implication within thecultural and leisure activities of Barcelona. The Fàbrica Moritz Barcelona is located in Ronda Sant Antoni, recently renovated and turned into a very cool restaurant with really nice food. Besides, it has a space that I like a lot: the M-Store, where you can find a kiosk, fresh unpasterurized beer or an oven to cook Triticum bread. It's actually more than a simple store, it's a space which perfectly mixes tradition and modernity, where you can enjor a good beer and loads of art!

Taking advantage of the amazing space that the M-Store is, last Thursday we assisted to the presentation of a new pair of socks which unite perfectly the essence of both Parachanclas! and Moritz. Using yellow and blue as clear signs of identity and using the first Parachanclas! design as inspiration, the result are these massive socks with bottle caps and openers designed by Juan Díaz-Faes and that I'm looking forward to wearing them! Besides, Isma and I could meet finally the people who gave birth to Parachanclas! (Juan was among them). If we love their socks, now we love them even more! Daring and creative people who, above all, love what they do.

Hoy os quiero hablar del precioso oficio de la sastrería, que además es un tema que a mi me toca muy de cerca. Mi padre, actualmente jubilado, fue sastre la mayor parte de su vida, y yo he crecido entre máquinas de coser; alfileres; botones de todos los tamaños, formas y colores; y retales, muchos retales, los cuales cosía entre sí, como si tuviera la más mínima idea de lo que estaba haciendo... Recuerdo a la perfección esa maxi tijera y la plancha, ambas de hierro, que pesaban un quintal!

Aunque estemos en el siglo XXI, en la era de la tecnología, de las producciones en masa y a contrarreloj, no hay nada como un traje hecho a medida, con paciencia y mimo. Sin duda, una experiencia que involucra al cliente en el proceso de creación desde el primer momento.

El oficio de sastre se remonta al siglo XII, donde empezó a desenvolverse poco a poco en Europa. Fue en el Renacimiento cuando el concepto de la forma humana empezó a cobrar fuerza. Así que podría atribuirse a este período el nacimiento de lo que hoy en día mueve miles de millones de dinero diariamente: la moda. 

Investigando un poco para este post descubrí que existe el Club de Sastres de España (clubdesastres.com), del cual no había oído hablar nunca, y el cual se describe de esta manera:

El Club de Sastres es una agrupación profesional que reúne a los maestros sastres más cualificados de España y cuyo número no puede exceder de una cantidad acordada. Para formar parte de esta organización, el candidato debe de ser propuesto por un miembro y aceptado por la totalidad de los mismos con el objetivo de poder mantener el máximo nivel profesional a salvo de criterios personales.

Y es que en España careceremos de muchas cosas, pero de lo que no nos podemos quejar es de nuestra larga, y exitosa, trayectoria sartorial. En la web del Club de Sastres podréis encontrar, entre otras cosas, un listado de sastres en activo y de sastres eméritos, así como sugerencias para "el buen vestir", referencias históricas sobre el vestir o una "Inspiration gallery".

La web HOMBRE Y ESTILO tiene una entrada estupenda acerca de las mejores sastrerías de España, el cual podéis consultar pinchando AQUÍ. Es una pena que el oficio de sastre se esté perdiendo, pero es prácticamente imposible competir contra los centros comerciales y las multinacionales textiles. A los que todavía resisten, muchas gracias por preservar el precioso oficio del corte y confección.

Today I want to talk about that beautiful profession called tailoring which, besides, feels very close to me. My father, currently retired, was a tailor for almost all his life, so I grew up surrounded by sewing machines; pins; buttons of all sizes, types and colours; and remnants, loads of remnants, which I used to sew as if I had a clue of what I was doing... I still remember the huge iron scissor and the iron, both of them really heavy!

Although this is the XXI century, the era of technology, mass productions in a short period of time, it cannot be compared to a tailor-made suit, with patience and caring. It is, with no doubt, an experience which involves the client into the process of creation from the very first moment.

The tailoring profession began already in the XII century, developing slowly in Europe. Although it was in the Renaissance when the concept of the human form started to gain importance. So, this period could be considered as the starting point of what nowadays moves millions and millions of money daily: fashion.

Doing a little research on the Internet for this post, I found out that, in our country, we have the Tailors Club of Spain (clubdesastres.com). I've never heard about it, but they describe them as it follows:

The Tailors Club is a professional association which unites the most qualified tailors of Spain and which number cannot exceed an agreed quantity. In order to become a member of this organization, the candidate must be proposed by a member of the club and accepted by the totality of it with the purpose of maintaining the highest professional level regardless personal criteria.

I'm sure we lack a lot of things in Spain, but we cannot complaint about our long, and successful, tailoring trajectory. At the Tailors Club website you can find, among a lot of things, a list with the active and the emeritus tailors, suggestions for a good way of dressing, historical references about the dress or an "Inspiration gallery".

HOMBRE Y ESTILO website has a great entry about the best tailoring stores in Spain. You can take a look at it by clicking HERE. It is such a pity the gradually disappearance of this profession, but it is practically impossible to compite with the big commercial areas and the textile multinationals. 

To all those tailors that still resist, thank so much for preserving the beautiful professions of cutting and confection.
