The Oscars 2017: Favourite & Not So Favourite Looks...

Ayer se celebró la 89 edición de la gala de los Oscar, una entrega de premios que cada vez gana más popularidad por su alfombra roja, que por la entrega de premios en sí. Y tengo que decir que, en mi opinión, los looks que desfilaron ayer por el photocall han sido de los peores que he visto en mucho tiempo. Una auténtica demostración de chonismo y mal gusto. Cada vez tengo más claro que, en la mayoría de los casos, menos es más.

The 89th edition of the Oscar Awards took place yesterday, an event in which its red carpet gains more popularity year after year, more than the prizes themselves. I have to say that, in my opnion, I didn't like most of the outfits at the photocall. The choice of the dress, the hair, the make up... in most cases, everything failed. If I'm sure of something is that in many times less is more.

El blanco, el dorado y el nude han sido los protagonistas. Si nos vamos a colores más vivos, el Oscar se lo lleva el rojo. Y el color negro, siempre elegante y acertado, en algunos casos no ha sido la mejor opción. He seleccionado algunos de los que más me han gustado y algunos de los que menos. A ver si estáis de acuerdo conmigo.

The colour white, the golden and the nude were the protagonists of the night. If we talk about more vivid colours, the Oscar goes to the red. And black, always classy and correct, in some cases it wasn't the best choice. I've chosen some of the looks that I've liked the most and some that I haven't enjoyed that much. Let's see if you agree with me.

Valentina Sampaio: First Transgender Model on Vogue Paris

Aunque todavía queda mucho camino por recorrer, siempre hay alguna noticia que nos alegra el día y que nos anima a seguir luchando por una igualdad que no tendría que haber sido negada desde el principio. Por eso, hablando de buenas noticias, quiero presentaros a Valentina Sampaio (@valentts). Es modelo, transexual y es noticia porque es la primera modelo transgénero en protagonizar una de las portadas que cualquier modelo daría lo que fuera por conseguir, la de Vogue París.

''La beauté transgenre'' (La belleza transgénero) dará título al número de marzo de esta prestigiosa revista de moda. Si para cualquier modelo es muy difícil llegar a ser ''alguien'' dentro de este mundo tan competitivo y exigente, imaginaos para alguien que ha tenido que superar un cambio de sexo. Pero todo esfuerzo tiene su recompensa, y así lo demuestra Valentina.

No estamos hablando de estándares de belleza. Todos sabemos que lo que hoy se lleva, mañana estará pasado de moda. Hablamos de destruir barreras y prejuicios y defender una serie de derechos que no se le deben negar a nadie. A Valentina no le han regalado nada y está llegando muy lejos por ella misma. Fue portada de la revista Elle el pasado año y, de hecho, es una muy posible candidata a desfilar en uno de los eventos de moda más esperados cada año, el Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

Los medios de comunicación tienen una gran repercusión en la sociedad y Vogue es, sin duda, una de las publicaciones más influyentes (sino la que más) en el mundo de la moda. Ya rompió estereotipos en 1988 cuando sacó a la primera mujer negra en portada, Naomi Campbell (@iamnaomicampbell), y también lo hizo en 2015 con un reportaje que tenía como protagonista a Andreja Pejic (@andrejapejic), una modelo transexual anteriormente conocida como Andrej y de la cual ya os había hablado en el blog (AQUÍ).

Yo no puedo hacer otra cosa más que alegrarme por Valentina y celebrar sus éxitos y esperar que esto sólo sea el inicio de una gran carrera como modelo.

Though there's still a long journey ahead, there's always something that lifts our spirit and encourages us to keep on fighting for the equality that shouldn't have been denied in the first place. So, speaking of good news, I want to introduce you to Valentina Sampaio (@valentts). She's a transsexual model, and she's become news 'cause she's the first transgender model who will appear in one of the covers that any model would kill to appear in, Vogue Paris.

''La beauté transgenre'' (La belleza transgénero) is the title of the March issue of this prestigious fashion magazine. If it's very hard for any model to become ''someone'' within this competitive and tough world, just imagine how hard it's for someone who went through a change of sex. But every effort must be rewarded, and Valentina's beginning to enjoy the results.

This isn't about beauty standards. Everyone knows that what's trendy today, it becomes unfashionable tomorrow. This is about destroying walls and prejudices and defending a bunch of rights that mustn't be denied to anyone. Valentina has went through a lot and she's reaching very far by herself. She appeared in the cover of Elle magazine last year and, in fact, it's very likely to see her on the catwalk at one of the most expected fashion events, the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

The media has a huge impact upon society and Vogue is, with no doubt, one of the most (or the most) influential publications within the fashion world. It broke sterotypes in 1988 when the first black woman appeared in one of ist covers. She was Naomi Campbell (@iamnaomicampbell). And it did it too in 2015 with a shooting which has Andreja Pejic (@andrejapejic) as protagonist. Andreja is also a transgender model formerly known as Andrej (I told you about her some time ago HERE).

I can't do anything more but being happy about Valentina's achievement and celebrate her success, and also expecting that this might be just the beginning of a great career as a model.

Stranger Things la lanzó a la fama y ella ha sabido mantenerse a la altura y conquistar a un público cada vez mayor. Poco queda de Eleven, esa niña de vestido amarillo, asustadiza y loca por los gofres congelados que Netflix nos dio a conocer. A punto de estrenarse la segunda temporada, Eleven - perdón, Millie Bobby Brown (@milliebobby_brown) - se ha convertido en toda una it girl, acaparando la atención en cualquier alfombra roja y photocall en el que aparece.

Para los que no hayáis visto la serie (si sois de esos, ya estáis tardando porque es sencillamente MARAVILLOSA), Millie interpreta a Eleven (011), una misteriosa niña con ciertas habilidades que cambiará por completo la vida de cuatro niños (tranquilos, que no haré spoiler). Pues bien, la vida de estos cuatro niños no es la única que cambia. Millie (que por cierto, es española de nacimiento) ha sabido aprovechar el tirón que Stranger Things le ha dado y desde entonces no ha parado: estrenos, front rows, entrevistas, portadas, colaboraciones... Con tan solo 12 años, su currículo es increíble! Lo último: ser imagen de las míticas Chuck Taylor All Star de Converse protagonizando su última campaña, dirigida por Karim Huu Doo y que lleva el nombre de Forever Chuck.

Aunque su mayor colaboración dentro del mundo de la moda por el momento ha sido con Calvin Klein. Mucho está dando qué hablar esta famosa casa de moda últimamente. Recién estrenada su última colección, la primera bajo la dirección de su nuevo director creativo, Raf Simons, Calvin Klein ha querido contar con la popular actriz en su última campaña.

Sus apariciones en distintas alfombras rojas han sido siempre muy comentadas y, sobre todo, muy bien valoradas. Convertida en toda una influencer, Millie no se limita a protagonizar campañas de moda únicamente. También ha sido la protagonista del último videoclip de Sigma en colaboración con una de mis cantantes favoritas, la británica Birdy.

Y todo esto solo es la punta del iceberg. Larga vida a Millie!

Stranger Things made her famous and she knew how to keep up an conquer a much wider audience. We met her as Eleven thanks to Netflix. She was that afraid little girl with the yellow dress and crazy about frozen waffles. The second season is about to be launched. Eleven - sorry, Millie Bobby Brown (@milliebobby_brown) - has turned into a real it girl, getting the attention in every red carpet and photocall she shows up.

For those of you that haven't seen the series yet (if you're one of those, I don't know what you're waiting for 'cause it's simply MARVELLOUS), Millie plays the role of Eleven (011), a misterious kid with certain abilities that'll change completely the lives of four other kids (don't worry, I won't spoil you anything). Anyway, the lives of these four children are not the only ones that change. Millie (who, by the way, was born in Spain) knew how to take advantage of the popularity that Stranger Things has given to her and she hasn't stopped since then: premieres, front rows, interviews, covers, collabs... She's only 12 years old but her résumé is amazing! Her last achievement: she's become the image of the well known Chuck Taylor All Star by Converse in its last campaign named Forever Chuck and directed by Karim Huu Doo.

Although, her major collab within the fashion world till now has been with Calvin Klein. This famous brand is in the spot light nowadays. It's just presented the latest collection with its new creative director, Raf Simons, and the firm's also wanted to work with Millie for its latest campaign.

Her appearances at different red carpets have been always of great interest and her outfits really well valued. Though she can be considered as what we call nowadays a influencer, she does more than fashion campaigns. She's also the protagonist of the latest Sigma's clip featuring one of my favourite artist, the British singer Birdy.

And all of this is just the top of the iceberg. Long Live Millie!

All You Need Is Love!

Mañana es, dicen, el día más romántico del año. Yo particularmente soy de los que piensan que cualquier día del año es bueno para sorprender a alguien al que quieres, sin necesidad de gastarse mucho dinero. Y ojo, digo ''alguien'' porque no sólo se tiene porque celebrar San Valentín con tu pareja. Las personas solteras también tienen derecho. Así que, tratándose del día del amor, celebrarlo con todas las personas a las que queráis: padres, hermanos, amigos... y qué fluya el amor!

Tampoco soy especialmente partidario de regalar cosas materiales en San Valentín. Y reconozco que lo de regalar (o que me regalen) flores no me gusta mucho (si teníais pensado regalármelas, cambiadlas por bombones, que les sacaré más partido!), pero sí que me gusta hacer algún plan especial con mi pareja y disfrutarlo los dos, aunque este año nos toca pasarlo separados :(

A mi me gustan los planes sencillos. Al fin y al cabo lo que de verdad importa es la compañía. Y si en algo me gusta invertir el dinero (además de en ropa), es en viajes y en comer. Sobre todo en comer. Por eso, si queréis empezar el Día de San Valentín  con buen pie y cogiendo fuerzas, curraos un desayuno de 10, que siempre tiene mucho más mérito hacerlo uno mismo. Aunque hoy en día hay muchas empresas que se dedican a traerte el desayuno que tú encargues a casa, como por ejemplo: Regalo Original o Los Desayunos de la Abuela.

Yo soy de los que se levantan tarde y con un café aguanta hasta la hora de la comida, por eso en mi caso, lo que suelo hacer es reservar sitio para cenar, a poder ser en algún restaurante en el que nunca haya estado. Soy de buen comer, así que intento buscar un sitio en el que la relación calidad precio sea buena, y que las cantidades sean generosas. Por cierto, para eso TripAdvisor es un buen aliado. 

Si ya lo que buscáis es tirar la casa por la ventana y además de la cena romántica (y de algún detalle a mayores, como flores, bombones o joyas) queréis rematar la noche por todo lo alto, siempre podéis reservar una noche de hotel, y si sois de esas personas súper detallistas y románticas, pasaos antes por la habitación y ponedla a tono: unos pétalos, unas velitas (con cuidado de no quemar nada), una botellita de champán... y que siga fluyendo el amor!

Hagáis lo que hagáis, recordad siempre que hay muchos tipos de amor y que todos merecen ser celebrados. Feliz Día de San Valentín a todos!

Tomorrow is said to be the most romantic day of the year. Particularly, I think that any time of the year is a good ocassion to surprise someone you love, without spending too much money. And I say ''someone'' because it's not necessary to celebrate Valentine's Day with your lover (single people have to right to celebrate it too). So, being the day of love, celebrate it with all those people you love: parents, siblings, friends... and let the love flow!

I also think that giving material things on Valentine's Day isn't that necessary. Y recognise that giving (or being given) flowers is something I don't like that much (so if you were going to send me flowers, turn them into chocolates, I'll enjoy them much better!). What I really like is to plan something special with my partner so we both can enjoy it, though this year we have to spend it separated :(

I love simple plans. At the end, what really matters is the company. I love spending money (of course buying clothes, but also) on trips and food. Specially on food. So, if you want to begin Valentine's Day on the right foot, make the perfect breakfast. Of course, if you do it yourself it'll have an extra value, but nowadays there're plenty of sites that deliver the breakfast at your place, such as: Regalo Original or Los Desayunos de la Abuela.

I'm one of those people that like getting up late and who drinks a coffee for breakfast and that's all so, in my case, I rather book a table for dinner at a nice restaurant (a restaurant where I haven't been before, preferably). I love eating, so I try to find a plce where the relation between que quality and the price is balanced, and with generous dishes. By the way, TripAdvisor can help you a lot with that.

If what you're looking for is to finish the night with fireworks and, apart from the romantic dinner (and an extra gift such as flowers, chocolates or jewelry) you're looking for something else, you also can book a hotel room for that night. Besides, if your very romantic and attentive, go to the hotel before meeting your date and leave some petals, candles (do not burn anything, please), a bottle of champagne... and let the love keep on flowing!

Whatever you do, just remember that there're many types of love and that all of them deserve to be celebrated. Happy Valentin'es Day for you all!

Stradivarius Man Is Already Here!

Si os pido que penséis en una tienda de ropa con un olor muy característico perceptible a unos cuantos metros antes de entrar en dicha tienda, seguramente a todos se os venga a la mente la misma imagen.

Pues sí, estoy hablando de Stradivarius, ya que ha sido noticia estos días. Otro de los grandes del grupo Inditex se ha venido arriba y ha lanzado su primera línea de ropa para hombre. A mi particularmente no me sorprende. Era de esperar que tarde o temprano lo hiciera, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que, aunque no es la que más beneficios da de entre sus ''hermanas'', sí es una de las que más está creciendo (casi 1.000 tiendas repartidas en más de 60 países). Y que a nadie le extrañe que en un futuro más o menos lejano también saque línea home...

A Amancio Ortega no le basta con ser el segundo hombre más rico del mundo, y el único español entre los 20 primeros por cierto (gallego tenía que ser), que entre tienda y tienda que abre (una al día, más o menos, y ya son más de 6.000) ha decidido arriesgarse con Stradivarius Man.

Esta nueva línea ya está disponible en 32 tiendas físicas desde el pasado 1 de febrero, y también online. Confieso que aún no he entrado en ninguna tienda en la que poder ver esta línea, pero me he dado una vuelta por la tienda online y la verdad tiene muy buena pinta!

If I ask you to think about a store with a very characteristic scent which can be detected from metres aways even before coming into the store, I'm sure you all have pictured the same image on your mind.

That's it, I'm talking about Stradivarius, which has been on the spot light these days. One of the biggest within Inditex has launched its first clothing line addressed to men. I'm not particularly surprised by this news. It was somehow expected that sooner or later this had to happen. In fact, although within its ''sisters' Stradivarius is not the one which sells the most, its growth is remarkable (almost 1,000 stores in more than 60 countries). Who knows, maybe in the near future it'll launch a home line as well...  

For Amancio Ortega is not enough being one of the richest men in the world (the second, actually, and the only Spaniard within the first 20. He's from Galicia, of course). Apart from opening a store per day, basically (he's got more than 6,000 currently), he's dared to launch Stradivarius Man.

This new line is already available in 32 physical stores and online sicne 1st February. I must confess I still haven't get into any store to see it, but I did take a look to the online store and it looks quite nice!

Discovering Manuel Bolaño's New Atelier

Esta semana Barcelona rebosa moda por los 4 puntos cardinales. Sumidos en plena 080 BCN Fashion Week, también hay lugar para otro tipo de eventos, como el que tuvo ayer lugar en Carrer Gran de Gracia 239. Y es que ayer por la tarde Manuel Bolaño inauguraba en Barcelona su nuevo atelier, dejando así su anterior centro de trabajo en Carrer d'Aragó. Y como no quería perdérmelo, allí estuve yo con Isma para ver lo que este diseñador catalán de raíces gallegas, que ha vivido a medio camino entre la tierra del pulpo y la de los calçots, nos tenía preparados.

Un espacio súper amplio, de techos muy altos y suelos hidráulicos, al más puro estilo catalán. Una maravilla de sitio, vamos. Las dos zonas más importantes, la del atelier y la del showroom, están separadas por un largo pasillo, y a mitad de este pasillo, justo en frente a la entrada principal, te da la bienvenida un maniquí maravillosamente vestido de Manuel Bolaño.

Bolaño lleva años dedicándose al mundo de la moda. Empezó a estudiar diseño en el 2002 y ha trabajado como diseñador para Mango hasta que decidió hacer carrera en solitario. Ha ganado varios premios. El primero en el 2007, siendo el mejor de su promoción, y también es una de las caras más conocidas de la 080 Barcelona Fashion.

This week Barcelona is full of fashion. While celebrating the 080 BCN Fashion Week, there're also room for other type of events, such as the one that took place yesterday at Carrer Gran de Fracia 239. Yesterday in the afternoon Manuel Bolaño celebrated the opening in Barcelona of his new atelier, thus leaving the one he had at Carrer d'Aragó. And as I did't want to miss it, there I was with Isma to see what this Catalan designer with Galician roots, who has lived among the land of the octopus and the land of the calçots, had prepared for us.

It is a really wide space, with high roofs and hidraulic floor, following the traditional Catalan style. It's a very wonderful place, indeed. The two most important spaces, the atelier and the showroom, are separated by a long aisle and, right in the middle of the aisle and just in front of the main entrance there's a manikin beautifully dressed by Manuel Bolaño. 

Bolaño is into the fashion world since quite a long time. He started studying design in 2002 and he also worked as a designer for Mango until he decided to continue on his own. He has won several awards, the first of them in 2007 being the best of his promotion. He's also a well known face within the 080 Barcelona Fashion.

Ayer fue un día súper divertido e interesante. Esta semana se está celebrando la 18ª edición de la 080 Barcelona Fashion Week, que esta vez está teniendo lugar en el Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, un teatro de finales del siglo XX en el que se celebran espectáculos de todo tipo.

Yesterday was such a fun an interesting day. This week is taking place the 18th edition of the 080 Barcelona Fashion Week at the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, a theatre built at the end of the XX century where all kinds of shows take pace.

Como os decía, ayer me lo pasé en grande. Fui con mi amiga Pilar (@pilarherce), interiorista y maquilladora (de lo mejorcito que hay) a la presentación de la colección SS 17 de Anel Yaos y, justo antes, al desfile de Pilar del Campo. Y tenemos que reconocer que salimos encantados. En lo referente a ODAXELAGNIA, que así se llama la última colección de Anel, destacan los volúmenes, los estampados y la mezcla de texturas, entre los que destaca la lana. Una de mis piezas favoritas, esta que veis en la foto. Un pantalón con toques setenteros al más puro estilo Abba y con aires flamencos, como buen sevillano que es Anel. 

As I told you, it was great being there yesterday. I went with a friend of mine, Pilar (@pilarherce), interior designer and make up artist (one of the best) to the presentation of the new Anel Yaos' collection SS 17 and, just before that one, we also watched Pilar del Campo's new proposals. We loved both actually. Talking about ODAXELAGNIA, that's the name of Anel's new collection), I'd highlight the volumes, the prints and the mixture of textures, stressing the presence of wool. One of my favourite pieces was a trouser which reminded me a little bit of Abba and the 70s and also a touch of flamenco, making honour to Anel's origins.

Y muchos os preguntaréis: qué quiere decir ODAXELAGNIA? No es una palabra inventada. De hecho, es una parafilia que hace referencia a una práctica sexual mediante la cual uno siente placer al ser mordido. Los resultados de esas mordeduras se ven reflejadas en la colección de Anel en lo que a nivel cromático se refiere: rojos, morados, verdes... Y si como parafilia podemos considerarla inusual, los diseños de Anel también lo son. La asimetría de las prendas tiene una importancia fundamental: desde jerséis oversize que pueden usarse perfectamente como vestido o falda, a camisas desestructuradas. En general es una colección muy atrevida pero a la vez cargada de cierto romanticismo.

And many of you are wondering: what does ODAXELAGNIA mean? It's a word that exits actually. It makes reference to a sexual practice by which a person feels pleasure by being bitten. The results of those bites are reflected in Anel's collection at a chromatic level: red, purple or green hues among others. This sexual practice is as unusual as Anel's designs. The asymmetry of the designs is fundamental: oversize sweaters that can be used perfectly as a dress or a skirt, and also the unstructured shirts dominate the collection. In general terms is a very daring proposal but also a quite romantic one.

Después del desfile pasamos al Photocall Area donde pasamos un ratito corto pero súper agradable amenizado con unas cerves de la mano de Moritz. After the show, we spent a short but really nice time at the Photocall Area, refreshed with a couple of beers from one of the sponsors, Moritz.
