ABOUT ME

1 de junio de 1989, ese fue el día del mes del año en el que nací. Crecí en Caldas de Reis, una pequeña localidad pontevedresa famosa por sus roscones y que tiene además una magnífica cascada, puentes romanos y, sobre todo, gente maravillosa. 13 años en un colegio de curas y dos años en el instituto que me condujeron a estudiar, por cosas de la vida, la Licenciatura en Filología Inglesa en la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela. Increíbles años los de universitario. Los mejores me atrevería a decir. Un año de beca Erasmus en Leicester (Reino Unido); muchos, muchísimos, jueves de fiesta a mis espaldas y puñados de gente maravillosa en mi memoria (también Facebook, Instagram...). Después de la carrera, un Máster en Estudios Ingleses, también en Santiago. Seis años de universidad intercalados con trabajos de azafato de congresos y eventos y también como auxiliar de protocolo en el Aeropuerto de Santiago, trabajos que también recuerdo con mucho cariño y en los que aprendí mucho.

Pero la vida, que no para de dar vueltas, me llevó a estudiar en Madrid el curso inicial de TCP, es decir, Tripulante de Cabina de Pasajeros. Lo que todos comúnmente conocemos como "azafato de vuelo", y que es a lo que actualmente me dedico desde el 2014, y a lo que espero seguir dedicándome. Creces sin saber qué quieres hacer con tu vida, sin una vocación, hasta que, sin saber cómo, das con el trabajo perfecto para ti.

Mi interés por la moda fue tardío. Siempre fui presumido, pero no fue hasta que salí de mi pueblo que empecé a tener una visión más global de todo y a desarrollar aficiones que desconocía. En esos años pude hacer algo que jamás pensé que podría hacer y que sin duda han sido otras de las experiencias que más me han marcado y han significado mucho para mi. Momentos que recuerdo como un chute de adrenalina, alegría, también un poco de vergüenza y miedo... Me estoy refiriendo a los trabajos que hice en pasarela para diseñadores gallegos con un talento increíble: José Matteos, Gonzalo Vázquez, Marc Lago... Qué bien me lo pasaba probándome la ropa, o cuando nos ponían un maquillaje súper chulo, o esas horas con los compañeros previas al desfile... y el momento de salir a la pasarela era un subidón total!

Ya han pasado unos años de eso. Ahora prefiero participar de los desfiles sentado, y poder hablar de ellos en este blog. Comencé con #aRIDEthroughFASHION en el 2013. Me gusta escribir, me gusta la moda... por qué no hacer un blog sin otra pretensión mayor que la de evadirme durante unas horas. Nunca he pretendido hacer de #aRIDEthroughFASHION un egoblog. Me gusta hablar de cualquier tema relacionado con la moda: películas, campañas, bios de de modelos... Me encanta traer al blog diseñadores emergentes o poco conocidos también. Además, tengo la enorme suerte de contar con Ismael Álvarez, mi pareja, mi amigo, el que se encarga del diseño del blog, de mejorarlo con sus ilustraciones y sus fotos. Gracias, por todo.

No os entretengo más. Sólo espero que disfrutéis de este blog tanto como yo disfruto escribiéndolo ;)

June, 1st 1989, that was the day of the month of the year in which I was born. I grew up in Caldas de Reis, a small village in Pontevedra. It is famous because of its "roscones" and it also has a beautiful waterfall, Roman bridges and, above all, amazing people. After 13 years at a catholic school and two years in High School, I ended up studying a Degree in English Philology in the University of Santiago de Compostela. The best years of my life. One year of an Erasmus scholarship in Leicester (United Kingdom); lots of Thursdays partying and tons of incredible people in my memory (and also in Facebook, Instagram...). After finishing my degree, I studied a Master in English Studies, also in Santiago. Six years at the university mixed with jobs as a host in congresses and events and also for formal functions at the Airport of Santiago de Compostela. Those jobs taught me a lot and I remember them with a lot of affection.

But life is highly unpredictable, so I went to Madrid to get my title as a Cabin Crew. And that is my current job since 2014 and the one I expect to be doing for many years. Some people, like me, grow up without knowing what they want to be when as adults, with any apparent vocation, but, someday and unexpectedly, you ended up doing something that turns out to be perfect for you.

My interest in fashion came a bit late. I have been always concerned with my appearance, but it was not until I left my village that I got a more global vision of everything and I started developing interests that I did not know until then. In those years I was able of doing something that I had never thought I could do and that turned also into experiences that have meant a lot to me. Moments that I recall as a picture of adrenaline, joy, and also a bit of embarrassment and fear... I am talking about those jobs i did on the runway for very talented Galician designers: José Matteos, Gonzalo Vázquez, Marc Lago... I had such a really great time during the fittings, or when we got funny make ups, and during the hours before the show... and the moment we had to hit the runway was massive!

It has been some years since that. Now I rather participate in fashion shows from the other side and talking about them in this blog. I started #aRIDEthroughFASHION in 2013. I like writing, I like fashion... why not beginning a blog with no other pretension that getting away for a few hours. I have never meant #aRIDEthroughFASHION to be a egoblog. I like talking about any topic related with fashion: films, campaigns, bios of models that I like... I love introducing emerging designers or who are not well known yet. Besides, I am very lucky of having Ismael Álvarez by my side, my partner, my friend, the one who takes care of the design of the blog and who improves it with his illustrations and his photos. Thank you, for everything.
