Este año, los ángeles de Victoria's Secret se quedan en el Paraíso

Así es. Todo apunta a que este año, el famosísimo desfile de lencería de Victoria's Secret se cancela. El bombazo lo ha soltado uno de los ángeles de la firma, Shanina Shaik @shaninamshaik, que ha asegurado que este año no disfrutaremos de uno de los eventos de moda más esperado año tras año.

Oh, yes. It seems that this year, the insanely famous lingerie fashion show of Victoria's Secret is cancelled. The big news came from one of the angels of the brand, Shanina Shaik @shaninamshaik, who has declared that we will not longer enjoy one of the most expected fashion shows year after year.

Lo más curioso de todo esto es que la noticia no ha sorprendido a casi nadie. Que Victoria's Secret no está pasando por su mejor momento no es ningún secreto. En el 2018, la firma llegó a alcanzar un 50% menos de su valor. A esto hay que añadirle el cierre de hasta 53 tiendas este año y un mínimo histórico en el precio de sus prendas. Por si esto fuera poco, la emisión del desfile, que llegó a alcanzar los 10 millones de espectadores, el pasado año a duras penas superó los 3 millones.

The most curious fact of all this is that nobody seemed to be surprised about it. Everybody knows that Victoria's Secret is going through a rough time. In 2018, the brand reached a 50% less of its value. This year, about 53 stores have been closed and the prizes of the pieces are at a historical minimum. Besides, the broadcast of the show, which had reached an audience of more than 10 million people, last year it barely exceeded 3 million people.

La noticia se esperaba desde que, a principios de año, se anunciara la no emisión del desfile por televisión. 22 años viendo desfilar cuerpos esculturales (y todo sea dicho, prácticamente imposibles de alcanzar) que se acaban por lo que es, seguramente, un cúmulo de malas decisiones y de una visión retrógrada y machista de la marca.

Everyone expected the bad news since, at the beginning of the year, the brand announced that the show will not be broadcast on TV. So this is how 22 years of watching sculptural bodies (and truth be told, almost impossible to reach) end thanks to what has probable been a bunch of bad decisions and an old-fashioned and sexist vision of the brand.

Parece que Victoria's Secret no ha sabido evolucionar y adecuarse a la demanda actual. La gente está cansada de ver sobre la pasarela cuerpos con los que no puede identificarse. El público busca una diversidad que VS no ha sabido mostrar. Esto ha hecho que la imagen de la firma lleve mucho tiempo dañada, y las declaraciones del anterior CEO de no incluir modelos transgénero o de talla grande en los desfiles tampoco ha ayudado. Victoria's Secret ha seguido sexualizando el cuerpo de la mujer y esto, en plena revolución feminista, no es una decisión muy inteligente.

It seems that Victoria's Secret hasn't known how to evolve either adapt to the current demand. People are tired of watching on the runway bodies that they can not relate to. The audience is looking for diversity, and VS wasn't able to deliver it. This has caused a great impact on the image of the brand. Besides, the declarations of the former CEO about denying the inclusion of transgendered and big-sized women on the show didn't help either. Victoria's Secret has kept on sexualizing the woman body, which is not a really smart decision  now that we are in the middle of the feminist revolution.

La firma tampoco ha estado exenta de polémicas. Muchas han sido las modelos que han declarado sentirse muy presionadas por la propia marca para tener un cuerpo 10. Durísimos entrenamientos y estrictas dietas que han obligado a algunos de sus ángeles a renunciar a sus alas, como ha sido el caso de Gisele Bündchen @gisele o Adriana Lima @adrianalima.

Controversy has been also surrounding the brand over the past few years. There were many models who have declared feeling under a lot of pression by VS in order to have the perfect body. Really tough work outs and insane diets who have forced some of the angels to say good bye to their beautiful wings, such as Gisele Bündchen @gisele or Adriana Lima @adrianalima.

Victoria's Secret todavía no ha confirmado ni desmentido la noticia. Solo cabe esperar y ver cómo se van desarollando los acontecimientos.

La semana pasada tuvo lugar uno de los eventos de moda más espectaculares del año, y del que todavía no existe ningún documento gráfico. El evento en cuestión ha sido la presentación de la segunda colección que Rihanna lanza junto a TechStyle Fashion Group: Savage x Fenty.

One of the most spectacular fashion events of the year took place last week, but unfortunately there isn't yet any graphic document for us to enjoy it. The event was the presentation of the second collection that Rihanna launched together with TechStyle Fashion Group: Savage x Fenty.

El hecho de que todavía no se dispongan de fotos y vídeos del desfile no es casualidad. Todo se ha realizado el más absoluto secretismo, ya que el lanzamiento a nivel mundial de dicho desfile está previsto para el próximo 20 de septiembre a través de Amazon Prime Video, en más de 200 países. Estrictas medidas de seguridad se llevaron a cabo para asegurar que ninguno de los asistentes pudiera utilizar sus teléfonos móviles durante todo el evento.

Of course, the fact that there aren't videos and pictures of the event is complete intentional. Everything took place very secretly, as the globally launching of such show is scheduled for the next 20th September through Amazon Prime Video, in more than 200 countries. Very strict security measures were followed in order to provide that none of the guests to the show could use their phone during the whole show.

El Stonewall Inn era (y es) un bar situado en el barrio de Greenwich Village, en Nueva York. Por aquel entonces, el local pertenecía a la mafia. Aunque la clientela era bastante variada, era muy popular entre los sectores más marginados del propio colectivo gay (transexuales, chicos muy afeminados, chaperos y drag queens en su mayoría). En una década en las que las redadas policiales estaban a la orden del día, la del 28 de junio de 1969 en este mismo establecimiento se les escapó un poquito de las manos. Fue tal el escándalo que se montó y la cantidad de gente que acudió a revelarse, que las protestas se sucedieron en los días posteriores y en unas semanas ya se habían fundado varios grupos activistas en pro de más lugares en los que gays y lesbianas pudieran reunirse sin miedo a ocultar su orientación sexual.
The Stonewall Inn was (and still is) a bar located in the neighborhood known as Greenwich Village, in New York. Back then, this bar was property of the mafia. Though the clients were a mix of everything, it was very popular among the most marginalized sectors of the very own gay collective (transexuals, very effeminate boys, male prostitutes and drag queens above all). Even though at that time the raids qere something very usual, the one that happened at Stonewall Inn on June 28th of 1969 was a pretty much more intense than police expected. Hundreds of people ended up reunited in front of the bar fighting for their rights, and the impact was so huge, that the riots continued for the next days. After some weeks, several activist groups were founded with the aim of creating more safe places for those gays and lesbians to get together without the fear of expressing their sexual orientation.

Todavía queda mucho por hacer, mucho camino por recorrer y mucho por lo que luchar, pero lo importante es hacerlo juntos. Y no hace falta ser parte del colectivo para luchar por ello, al igual que no hace falta haber padecido una enfermedad para empatizar con la causa. Estamos hablando de PERSONAS. Todos tenemos el mismo derecho a ser felices y a vivir nuestra vida como nos dé la gana. 
There's still a lot to do; the path is very long and the fight isn't over yet, but the important thing is being together. And there's no need to be part of the LBTQ community to fight for it, in the same way that it isn't necessary to have suffered from any diesease in order to empathize with the cause. This is PEOPLE we are talking about. We all have the same right to be happy and to live our life the way we want to.

¿Cuántos de los que estáis leyendo esto habéis visto RuPaul's Drag Race? Sin duda ''Mama Ru'' ha visibilizado y elevado a la comunidad drag como nadie, de hecho muchas drag queens son consideradas celebrities hoy en día y por eso él es la figura que es hoy en día. Reinas del Drag, su programa, ya lleva 11 temporadas y All Stars 4. Lo que muchos a lo mejor no sabéis es que, directa o indirectamente, este programa rinde un gran homenaje a la cultura del ball.
If you're reading this, how many of you have ever watched Rupaul's Drag Race? There's no doubt that Mama Ru has elevated the drag community to the top and he's made it more visible than ever, in fact many drag queens are nowadays considered as celebrities. Drag Race, his show, has already celebrated its 11th season and All Stars the 4th. But, what many of you may not know is that this show is a great tribute to the ball culture.

También conocida como drag ball culture o house-ballroom community, la ball culture tuvo una gran presencia en Estados Unidos a finales del pasado siglo. Podría considerarse una rama del extensísimo árbol que es la comunidad LGTB. Se trataba de un evento en el cual los participantes desfilaban acorde a una determinada categoría en frente de un público y de un jurado para ganar trofeos, premios, reputación y, sobre todo, evadirse de la triste realidad. Los participantes y asistentes eran en su mayoría gays, lesbianas y transexuales de raza negra o latina. Pero en mi opinión, lo más bonito de toda esta subcultura era que los participantes pertenecían a 'Casas', vivían juntos y emulaban una estructura familiar tradicional, con una Madre o un Padre al frente y en la que todos se ayudaban unos a otros. Si aún es duro hoy en día salir del armario, imaginaos en los años 80. Muchos integrantes de estas Casas eran personas LGTB que habían sido repudiados por sus propias familias por ser quienes querían ser.
Also known as drag ball culture or house-ballroom community, the ball culture had a great presence in the United States towards the end of the past century. It could be considered as a branch of the huge tree that the LGBT community is. It is en event in which the participants ''walk'' according to a determine category, in front of an audience and a jury in order to win trophies, prizes, reputation but, above all, get away from their sad reality. Most of the participants and the audience were mainly gay, lesbian and transgender black and latin people. But, in my opinion, the most beautiful aspect of this whole subculture was that most participants belonged to ''Houses''. They lived together, emulating a traditional family structure, with a Mother or a Father in charge, and giving support to each other. If nowadays it is hard to come out, just imagine how it was to do it in the 80s. Most of them were LGBT people who were forced to abandon their real homes after being repudiated by their own families for trying to be who they really wanted to be.

No creáis que esto es algo que pertenece al pasado. Todavía siguen existiendo estas casas, repartidas en más de 15 países a lo largo de toda América. Las mejores Casas, aquellas que consiguen más trofeos, alcanzan el rango de ''legendarias''. Existen Casas legendarias como, por ejemplo, House of Ebony, fundada por Richard y Larry Ebony; House of Ninja, fundada por Willi Ninja; House of Aviance, fundada por Madre Juan Aviance; o House of Xtravaganza, fundada por Hector Xtravaganza y Angie Xtravaganza. Lo común era que, al entrar a formar parte de un determinada Casa, se adoptara como apellido el nombre de dicha casa.
But don't you think that this is something that already belongs to the past. There're still Houses spread through more than 15 countries all over the United States. The best Houses, those with more trophies, get toreach the title of ''legendary''. There're legendary Houses such as the House of Ebony, founded by Richard and Larry Ebony; the House of Ninja, founded by Willi Ninja; the House of Aviance, founded by Mother Juan Aviance; or the  House of Xtravaganza, founded by Hector Xtravaganza and Angie Xtravaganza. The tradition was that, once you were part of a House, the name of the House became your surname.

Se tenían muchas cosas en cuenta a la hora de juzgar a un participante: su forma de desfilar, de hacer ''voguing'', de posar, los looks que vestía, su actitud... Baile, música y moda eran los ingredientes principales de estos eventos. RuPaul's Drag Race está lleno de guiños a la Ball Culture, pero también hay muchas otras referencias. Lady Gaga se refiere a su propio equipo creativo como House of Gaga y a ella misma como Mother Monster; el grupo Icona Pop y el videoclip de su canción All Night rinde homenaje a este fenómeno; y en Netflix tenéis disponible (y la recomiendo 100%) la serie Pose, que gira en torno a los balls y a la epidemia del VIH a finales de los 80 en Nueva York.
There were several things that had to be taken into account in order to judge a performance: the way of walking, voguing, posing, the outfits, the attitude... Dance, music and fashion were the main ingredients of these events. RuPaul's Drag Race is full of signs to the Ball Culture, but there're also many other references. Lady Gaga refers to her own creative team as the House of Gaga and to herself as Mother Monster; the group Icona Pop and the video of their song All Night pays tribute to the balls; and Pose is already available in Netflix (100% recommended), a series focused on the ball culture and the HIV epidemic in New York at the end of the 80s.

El Olimpo de la moda despide hoy a uno de sus dioses. Gracias por tu arte, Karl Lagerfeld.

Diseñador, fotógrafo, ilustrador, coleccionista, personaje público... Hoy el mundo entero rinde homenaje a una de las personas que más ha influido en el mundo de la moda. Karl Lagerfeld ha muerto hoy en París a los 85 años. Una noticia que, desgraciadamente, muchos se esperaban desde que el pasado mes de enero, después de la presentación de su última colección, no apareciera al final del desfile. Polémico a la par que polifacético, Karl Lagerfeld siempre será recordado como el káiser de la moda.

Designer, photographer, illustrator, collector, celebrity... Today, the whole world is paying tribute to one of the most influential fashion icon of all times. Karl Lagerfeld has died today in Paris, when he was 85-years-old. Unfortunately, this was kind of expected after he didn't show up at the end of his last fashion show in January. Both controversial and multitalented, Karl Laferfeld will always be remember as the fashion kaiser.

Nació en Hamburgo (Alemania) en 1933, en el seno de una familia bastante acomodada. Podría decirse que se enamoró de la moda un 13 de diciembre de 1949, cuando asistió con su madre a su primer desfile, en este caso de Dior. A los 20 años decidió emigrar a París para perseguir su sueño y dos años más tarde, consiguió un trabajo como asistente de Pierre Balmain tras haber ganado un concurso . También ha trabajado para grandes firmas como Chloé y Fendi. Fundó su propia marca, Lagerfeld, en los años 80, pero si por algo se le recordará, será por su trabajo como director creativo de la firma francesa, Chanel, desde 1983.
He was born in Hamburg (Germany) in 1933, within a quite wealthy family. It could be said that he fell in love with fashion on 13th December, in 1949, when he assisted to a Dior fashion show with his mother. When he was 20, he decided to move to Paris to chase his dream and two years later, after winning a contest, he started working as an assistant for Pierre Balmain. He has also worked for great brands such as Chloé and Fendi. He funded his own brand in the 80s, called Lagerfeld, but he will be most rememberd for his job as creative director for the greatest French maison Chanel, since 1983.

Su vida personal no ha estado exenta de escándalos. Una drástica pérdida de peso (36 kilos en un solo año); una vida nocturna muy activa; un ligero coqueteo con las drogas; algo de libertinaje sexual... Bueno, que tire la primera piedra quien esté libre de pecado, ¿no? Sus declaraciones, más que controvertidas en más de una ocasión, y una estética muy definida lo han convertido en uno de los personajes más conocidos del panorama público en los últimos años.
His personal life was also a little bit polemic. He went through a massive weight loss (36kg in a year); he also had a quite active night life; a little affair with drugs; a sort of sexual debauchery... Well, whosoever is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone, right? The fact that he stated quite a few controversial declarations and also his very defined aesthetic have turned him into one of the most well-known public personalities of the last years.
