Qué bien se está cuando se está bien y qué poquito dura lo bueno...
Nuestro viaje a
Menorca duró 4 días y 3 noches. Llegamos el lunes a eso de las dos y media de la tarde y fuimos directos a alquilar un coche. Tenía la intención de llevarlo alquilado ya a través de Internet, pero como mi tarjeta es de débito no estaba seguro de si podía hacerlo y, de poder hacerlo, cuánto me habría costado. Total, que fuimos a alquilar un coche y genial. Lo alquilamos en la empresa
Enterprise. Un
Nissan Juke de lo más molón, súper nuevo y a 35 euros el día.
Fuimos derechitos al hotel (después de parar en
Ciutadella a comer), que estaba en el extremo oeste de la isla (el aeropuerto de Mahón está en el extremo este). De todas formas, no hay pérdida.
Menorca tiene básicamente una carretera general y en menos de una hora te plantas en el otro extremo. Nos alojamos en el
Hotel Almirante Farragut, un hotel de
**** muy grande, recién reformado y en el que nos sentimos MUY jóvenes con tanta excursión guiri del inserso. El hotel está muy bien. Las tres noches nos salieron súper económicas y con el desayuno y la cena incluidos. Y habitación con vistas al mar!! Lo mejor del hotel... la cala que tiene justo al lado:
Cala en Forcat. Muy chiquitita pero muy tranquila y bonita. Esa tarde nos dedicamos a ver las calitas más cercanas al hotel, yendo por los caminitos entre matojos y demás flora menorquina.

El segundo día pasamos la mañana en la
Cala en Forcat, la que está al lado del hotel. Comimos en uno de los restaurantes de la zona y fuimos derechitos a
Cala en Turqueta, que nos encantó. Recogidita, íntima, y con un agua tan clara y azul que no bañarse era un pecado. Como nos habían hablado muy bien también de
Cala Macaralleta y Macarella, y estaban cerca de Turqueta, allá que fuimos. Aunque las distancias no son largas en
Menorca, hay un trecho. Lo "peor" es la caminata desde el parking hasta Macarella, y aunque es bonita, nos seguimos quedando con Turqueta. Como la noche es joven,
después de cenar nos pusimos guapetes y nos fuimos a tomar unos cócteles cerca del hotel. Isma se pidió un mojito de fresa y yo un
Screaming Orgasm (con ese nombre, tenía que probarlo). Estaba hecho a base de vodka, Tía María, Bailleys y helado de vainilla, si mal no recuerdo. Aunque el sabor no me hizo evocar ninguna sensación parecida a la del nombre del cóctel, la verdad es que estaba buenísimo.
Cómo buen viaje que se aprecie, siempre tiene que haber sitio para la gastronomía, así que el tercer día nos acercamos a
Fornells. Después de pasar un par de horas en
Cala Tirant, fuimos a este
pueblecito pequeño pero muy bonito, con su puertecito, sus casitas blancas y sobre todo, sus restaurantes especializados en calderetas de langosta. Comimos en
El Pescador, recomendados por un familiar mío. Salimos encantados. Los camareros muy atentos y simpáticos y la comida muy rica. Mi mejor recomendación si vais a
Menorca: olvidaos de la carne y consumid pescado y marisco! A la tarde nos acercamos a
Cala en Porter. Estuvimos en la cala un ratito (
muy bonita, familiar, rodeada de acantilados) y después nos acercamos a la
Cova d'en Xoroi, aunque que nos quedamos con las ganas de verlas porque justo ese día cerraban a las 18h porque había un evento... ya tenemos excusa (otra más) para volver.
Ya el último día nos dedicamos básicamente a tomar el sol. Conscientes de que nos quedaban mil calas por ver, decidimos dejarlas para el siguiente viaje y pasar gran parte del día en Cala en Turqueta. A media tarde ya cogimos rumbo
Mahón. Pasamos un par de horas tomando algo en el puerto antes de ir al aeropuerto.
De Menorca nos llevamos el azul de sus aguas y la tranquilidad de la isla. A mi particularmente me encanta el hecho de que esté tan poco explotada y de que el acceso a las calas no se pueda hacer en coche. Por no hablar de
lo verde que es y de la cantidad de vacas, caballos y ovejas que vimos esos días, alguna que otra vez desde MUY cerca ;)
No sabemos cuándo, pero sí tenemos claro que volveremos!!
How great it is when you feel great and how shitty it is that time goes by so fast...
Our trip to Menorca lasted 4 days and 3 nights. We arrived on Monday at 2:30 pm more or less and we went straight forward to rent a car. I had the intention to rent it online before traveling to Menorca, but I have a debit card and I wasn't completely saure if I could do it or how much would had cost me. So, we went to rent a car and everything went great. We did it through Enterprise and we got a Nissan Juke which was almost new and it cost us 35€ per day.
We went to the hotel first (after having lunch in Ciutadella), which was in the opposite side of the island (Mahón Airport is right in the East side). Anyway, it's so easy to drive in Menorca. It basically has one main road and in less than an hour you get to the other side. We stayed at the Hotel Almirante Farragut. a four-star hotel quite big, renewed and that made us fell really young as it was full of mature British visitors. The three nights with breakfast and dinner included were pretty economical. And we had a room with views!! The best part of the hotel... the cove next to it: Cala en Forcat. Quite small but very quiet and beautiful. We spent that afternoon seeing the closest coves to the hotel going on foot through the narrow paths full of bushes and Menorquian flora.

We spent the second day in Cala en Forcat, the one next to the hotel. We had lunch in one of the restaurants of the area and then we went to Cala en Turqueta, which we love. Cozy, intimate and the water was son clear and blue that it was almost a sin not to have a bath. As we also had heard that Cala Macarella and Macarelleta were so nice too and they were close to Turqueta, we decided to take a look at them too at the end of the day. The worst part of it was the long walk to reach them. We still prefer Turqueta. As the night is young, after having dinner we went to have some cocktails next to the hotel. Isma had a strawberry mojito and I ordered a Screaming Orgasm (I had to try it with such a name). If I recall, it was elaborated with vodka, Tía María, Bailleys and vanilla ice-cream. The taste didn't produce any feeling in me related with the name of the cocktail, but it was really sweet and good.
A trip is never a trip if you can't enjoy the gastronomy, so the thrid day we decided to go to Fornells. After spending a couple of hours in Cala Tirant, we went to this little beautiful village, with its little port, its white houses and, aboe all, its restaurants, all of them specialized in lobster stew. We had lunch in El Pescador, as a relative of mine told me to go there. We loved it. The stuff was very nice and attentive, and the food was really good. My best recommendation if you ever go to Menorca: leave the meat aside and try fish and seafood! In the afternoon we went to Cala en Porter. We were there for a while. It's also very pretty and perfect for families, and it's surrounded by cliffs. After that we tried to visit the Cova d'en Xoroi, but they were closed that afternoon because there was an event. So we have an excuse (another one) to come back to Menorca.

The last day was dedicated to sun bathing. We were conscious that there were hundreds of coves to visit, so we decided to do it in the next trip. So we spent most of the day in Cala en Turqueta. In the afternoon we went to Mahón, where we spent a couple of hours having a drink at the port before going to the airport. From Menorca we highlight the colour blue of the water and the tranquility of the island. I personally love the fact that it isn't that much exploited and the access to the coves can't be made by car. We also loved how green it is and the great amount of cows, sheep and horses that we saw during those days, some of them VERY close ;) We don't know when, but we know for sure that we'll come back!!
